Prescriptions & clinical care
Minor Ailment Prescribing
Ontario pharmacists can assess and prescribe treatment for many common minor ailments. Instead of waiting days for a doctor's appointment or hours at a walk-in clinic, come see us. We'll talk through your symptoms in private, recommend the right treatment, and prescribe medication when it's appropriate.
If your symptoms point to something that needs more care, we'll tell you, and help you get to the right place.

How it works
- Step1
Call ahead or ask at the counter
Let us know what's going on. Calling ahead helps us set aside time for you.
- Step2
Meet with a pharmacist
Bring your Ontario health card. Your pharmacist will ask about your symptoms and health history in private.
- Step3
Start feeling better
If treatment is right for you, we can prescribe and fill it on the spot, or refer you for further care.
Good to know
- Minor ailment assessments are publicly funded for Ontario residents with a valid health card. If medication is prescribed, regular prescription costs apply.
- If you have severe symptoms or think you may be having an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral or an appointment?
No referral is needed. Calling ahead is recommended so a pharmacist can make time for you, but you're always welcome to ask at the counter.
Is there a cost?
There's no charge for the assessment when you show a valid Ontario health card. If you're prescribed medication, the usual prescription costs apply, and your drug plan may help with coverage.
What if my condition is more serious?
Your pharmacist will let you know if your symptoms need further care and help point you to the right place, such as your family doctor, a nurse practitioner or urgent care.
